Michael Hing

Exclusively witty and eccentric, Michael Hing is everything the comedy fans in Australia looks for in a comedian. Hailing from Sutherland Shire, he was just seven when he first climbed onstage to narrate a bunch of plagiarized jokes at the local public school’s Talent Show. Since then he realized his passion for comedy and turned it into a highly successful career. Michael was a high school misfit, which later on led him to become a drug mule and mobster. However, he was swift to turn on a new leaf and start fresh as a comedian, radio jockey, TV presenter and writer.

He is an unusually talented standup artist with a steaming hot comedy style that never fails to amuse. His audacious and original jokes leave fans and critics in fits and stitches. When not on stage, Michael is humming the latest songs or playing video games like any other Aussie. Get in touch with us now to book him for performing on your next event.

COMEDY STYLE

Michael’s comedy is rated 15+. This is not only because his shows bear mature content but also because Michael manipulates sensitive topics like race, creed, injustice and inequality to devise humor. His shows, ‘Occupy White People’ and ‘An Open Letter to Rich White People Concerning Their Role in the Downfall of Civilization’ directly target the white community. Although they reflect his interests in black comedy, Michael’s shows are never subject to offence or controversy. He shares personal stories and experiences from his life in order to form an intangible bond with the audience. Having spent quite an extraordinary childhood, Michael has a lot up his sleeve to narrate stories.

Michael is hurtfully ironic. His over-the-top humor coupled with extreme insensitivity will leave your lungs gasping for air. Michael believes in audience participation so he often throws question and remarks at his spectators during standup. His unique style and innovation allows him to standout amongst his competitors. Adelaide Advertiser gives Michael 4 stars, saying that he is ‘all things a great standup should be’.

NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCES

Michael believed that it is rarely possible for comics to receive breakthroughs in the comedy circuit without making it to TV and radio first. Consequently, he led an online show ‘Good Game’ that aired daily on ABC2. Furthermore, Michael was a visiting panelist on Channel 10s ‘Can of Worms’. He co-founded ‘Project 52’, which he currently manages and hosts, in 2009. Project 52 is a renowned comedy lounge in Australia that features an abundance of comedians and acts.

Michael made it to the NSW State Finals twice in the Raw Comedy Competition. In 2011, he bagged a nomination for Timeout’s ‘Comedian of the Year’.  Michael receives frequent invitations to perform at prominent occasions like the ‘World’s Funniest Island’ and ‘Harvest Festivals’. Presently, he continues to execute comedy for packed theatres in major Australian events like the MICF, Sydney Comedy Festival, Adelaide Fringe and Sydney Fringe. You can hear Michael regularly on Triple J’s radio show.
