Jonas Holt

Here is a comedian in a class of his own. Being a multi-talented person has helped Jonas in his stage performances. Holt is not only a gifted comedian, but also writes and sings parodies and accompanies himself on the guitar. If that’s not enough, Jonas is athletic and an active gymnast.

Jonas  began  his  stand-up  comedy  career  in  1995  by  winning  an  impersonation  competition thirteen times, following which he was disqualified from entering further competitions in Perth. However, now convinced of his abilities in stand-up comedy, Jonas Holt relocated to Sydney, where he went on to establish himself as a well-know stand-up comedian in the national and international league. He is a versatile performer, and keeps his audiences in laughs, whether at a small private function or a large festival.

By  1998,  Jonas  Holt  was  seen  at  all  prominent  events,  and  became  a  family  name  as  an Australian comedian. In 1999, he added another dimension to his acts by carrying his guitar onstage, and began to sing parodies to compliment his acts This was very well-received, and today, his musical parodies are part and parcel of his trademark.

One of the best attributes of this comedian is that he is very well-tuned to the political climate of Australia, and a lot of his acts involve impersonation of politicians, bringing out the lighter side of Australian politics. In recent years, Holt earned new acclaim by his impersonation of Prime Minister  Tony  Abbott  on  YouTube’s  “The  Year  of  the  Abbott”.  The  videos  bring  out  the characteristic subtle but poignant humor of Holt’s ability to bring out the funny side of politics and politicians, but yet also send out a message to his audiences.

Says  Jonas Holt about Prime Minister Abbott:  “It all starts with a  blue tie  and a couple of clumps of blue tack behind my ears. But to really capture the mannerisms – or ‘idiot-syncracies’ – of Tony Abbott, I study not only how he speaks but also what makes him tick.” which sums up his depiction of this Australian Prime Minister quite aptly. The clincher during this series of videos is Holt’s impersonation of the famous “Abbott wink” which he does periodically with practiced finesse.

One of his best non-political videos on YouTube is his impersonation of NRL stars, using the lyrics of the rock band Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody which is a fine example of Jonas Holts abilities at hilarious impersonations.

Jonas also loves to entertain children, and has appeared in many exclusive shows for children. He often does superheroes shows at kid’s parties in Sydney. He says that he has been performing at children’s parties for eighteen years.

Holt designs funny bumper stickers, and they are sold at his shows for $3.00 each.

To sum up, Jonas Holt is a talented comedian, who was able to use his gift to entertain people with his stand-up routine, and we can expect to see much more from this 38 year old stand-up comedian-musician from Sydney.

On the Year of the Abbott: “It’s not an assault on the Liberal Party, it’s just an annual review of politics – a very funny one.” – Nathan Lentern, writer.
