Why a Comedy Show is a Good Option for a Date
All kinds of couples can have a solid date at a comedy show. Let’s be real, the whole dinner and a movie thing has been done to death. Time for some fresh lols in your life, and here’s why a comedy date is great for everyone, including old loves and awkward Tinder dates alike.
Everyone likes to laugh, so there is something for everyone at a comedy show. You might be the kind of young lovers joined at the lips and hands that are so infuriatingly sweet and smug it makes people want to slap you little bit. Or perhaps you are part of a couple who have been together so long that you’ve have run out of things to say to each other. Either way a comedy show is an excellent date activity. The former group get to oxygenate their blood and come up for a proper breathing session for the first time in weeks. The latter get all new topics of conversation for at least the next 24 hours.
So why make a comedy show the venue for your next date? I’m glad I imagined you asking:
Laughter plays a huge role in sexual attraction
Have you ever thought about why we love to make each other laugh in the first place? There’s now a big body of research that suggests humour is one of the most important traits a potential mate can have. A recent study found that one of the best indicators of romance is if a couple can laugh together.
Why do couples that laugh together stay together? According to the study’s key researcher Professor Jeffery Hall, “[i]f you meet someone who you can laugh with, it might mean your future relationship is going to be fun and filled with good cheer.” Read more about this here.
It’s a conversation starter
Sure, lots of comedians get their lols with some pretty crude tools. But the work of most comedians can say a lot more than crude jokes and toilet humour. Good comedy will make a comment on society, people, and personality traits (sometimes even occasionally accompanied by a fart joke). This makes for a whole smorgasbord of excellent ways to get a flow of conversation going.
Some comedy venues are romantic as all buggery
Lots of locations for your comedy date feature dim lighting, intimate tables, knees touching and all that good stuff. Just try not to snort in too pig-like a manner (unless your date is into that for some reason). Also try not to be the victim of a crowd heckle, unless you can handle having all your foibles pointed out.
Comedy is a good psycho screener
A date at a comedy club is an excellent way to filter out any undesirable character traits you may feel doubtful about. See just how hard they laugh at that sexist, racist, ageist or generally ‘ist’ joke. It will tell you a lot about their personality, and a lot about about whether or not you want to be with them.
